President - Elizabeth Gregory
Elizabeth Gregory is a research engineer at NASA Langley working in the nondestructive evaluation science branch. She completed her PhD aerospace engineering at Iowa State University in May of 2016. She is currently researching nondestructive evaluation techniques for composite materials during automated fiber placement. After earning her BS in aerospace engineering at the University of Kansas, she worked for two years at ATK Aerospace Structures in Clearfield, Utah on the Ares I Launch Vehicle composite structures design. In 2009 she returned to graduate school at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where earned a MS in Mechanical Engineering while working at the Hawaii Space Flight Lab. She has served as the president of the Hampton Roads SWE section since July 2017. She has also served in SWE leadership roles at the local and society level since 2005.
Vice President - Madelyn Hee
Madelyn Hee is a Nuclear Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, providing support for the construction of Virginia-class submarines for the United States Navy. Her vocation has provided her with a deep understanding in the relationship of trade work and effective production processes.
Madelyn received her Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering Technology from the Old Dominion University in 2014. She was instrumental in reviving the ODU-SWE chapter in 2009 where she later held the positions of Secretary and the President (2009-2013). With other officers at SWE-ODU, the team performed a number of outreach programs to female students at middle schools – advocating the importance of STEM.
